Provide engineering and project management assistance in the administration of design and construction of horizontal Capital Improvement Projects such as installation of water and/or wastewater lines, street construction, and drainage improvement projects. Prepare and/or review design and construction plans, specifications, technical reports, and cost estimates. Review and process contracts, invoices and pay estimates, supplemental agreements or appropriations, change orders, request for information and request for council action.

Attend and conduct design/construction progress meetings and on-site field observations/inspections. Assist with management of design consultants and construction contractors. Investigate and respond to inquiries by other City of Houston departments, consultants, agencies, contractors and the public.

This position is physically comfortable. This position will require standing, walking, bending, minor lifting, climbing stairs, and the ability to perform field investigations and negotiate field hazards.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires graduation from an approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers as of satisfactory standing, and possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

License Requirements

Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.

Must obtain a Professional Engineer license from the State of Texas within seven years from hire date as an Engineer-In-Training with the City of Houston.

Preference will be given to candidates with Degree concentration in Civil Engineering or closely related field.

• Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
