Associate Engineering Technician (Water) – Civil 3D Designer/Drafter

Location: Charlotte, NC

We are seeking an Associate Engineering Technician to support civil site development projects within the water and infrastructure sector. This role works closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop high-quality technical deliverables for complex public infrastructure projects.

Under general supervision, the Associate Engineering Technician performs technical drafting and design tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of civil engineering principles, with a strong focus on site development using Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley Micro Station.

This is an onsite position based in Charlotte, NC. Candidates must be local to the area. Relocation is not available.

• Support engineering teams in developing and modifying civil design deliverables.

• Create site development plans including grading, drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities.

• Utilize Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley Micro Station to produce and update drawings.

• Develop alignments, pipe networks, plan/profile sheets, sections, and proposed grading surfaces.

• Maintain accurate technical documentation and ensure compliance with applicable standards and document control procedures.

• Perform basic calculations such as material quantity takeoffs and dimensional checks.

• Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to minimize design conflicts and ensure consistency.

• Support continuous improvement initiatives and apply quality standards to all deliverables.

• Begin providing guidance and mentorship to junior technicians as experience grows.

• Minimum of 2 years of related civil drafting/design experience.

• Working experience with Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley Micro Station

• Basic proficiency in Civil 3D, including:

  • Alignments
  • Pipe networks
  • Plan and profile development
  • Sections
  • Proposed grading and surface modeling

• Diploma or technical certificate required.
• Associate Degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or a related field preferred.

• Ability to complete pre-employment screening requirements, which may include background check, drug screening, and motor vehicle record review in accordance with applicable laws.
