Canrig Drilling Technology is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Robotics Development Engineer to join our team focused on advancing automation and robotic technologies in the oil and gas sector. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying robotic control systems for supporting drilling operations in challenging environments primarily in the land drilling sector, on land drilling rigs.
- Design and develop robotic systems tailored for oil & gas drilling and pipe-handling applications.
- Integrate sensors and control systems for autonomous drilling and pipe-handling, manipulation, and data acquisition.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to prototype and test robotic control solutions for drilling and pipe-handling operations.
- Develop software for real-time control, telemetry, and remote operation of robotic platforms.
- Conduct field trials and validation tests in simulated and live oil & gas environments.
- Ensure compliance with industry safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Analyze performance data and optimize robotic systems for safety, reliability and efficiency.
- Document engineering processes, test results, and system configurations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/
SKILLS:
- Bachelor?s or Master?s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related Controls Engineering field.
- At least 5 years of experience in an engineering environment, developing Robotics and automation software.
- Experience with robotic systems in industrial or hazardous environments.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and ROS.
- Strong understanding of control systems, kinematics, and embedded systems.
- Familiarity with sensors used in oil & gas robotics (e.g., ultrasonic, inductive proximity, LiDAR, pressure).
- Ability to work in field conditions and travel to remote sites as needed.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master?s Degree or PhD in Controls / Robotics.
- Experience with multi-axis robotic systems, AUVs or material handling robots.
- Knowledge of Actin or Energid robotic control software.
- Knowledge of ATEX/IECEx standards for equipment in explosive atmospheres.
- Familiarity with SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols.
- Background in machine learning or computer vision for defect detection and predictive maintenance.
- Experience with simulation tools such as Gazebo or MATLAB/Simulink.
- Experience in the drilling industry.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS /
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- While this position is primarily based in a professional office environment.
- Travel to yards and rigs is essential and required.
- 25% travel is expected domestic and international.
