The basic function of this exempt position is to assist with all aspects of Mechanical Engineering in the development of custom plastic extrusion machinery and extrusion systems.
Role Responsibilities and Priorities- Work independently or as part of a team of engineers and/or designers to complete assigned projects.
- Assist the assigned Project Manager to ensure that all mechanical documentation is released in a timely manner, consistent with what is required to meet the project schedule and budget.
- Assist in the identification of new technologies and market segments; and then developing competitive programs and machine features that will aid in gaining market share and meeting customer demands in a cost‑effective manner.
- Assist with creation of conceptual designs and perform required analysis to ensure the satisfaction of all project specifications, providing overall systems focused solutions.
- Participate in design reviews with all relevant stakeholders (i.e., Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Service, etc.) providing technical oversight where needed at all stages of design process.
- Responsible for creation of required detail drawings, assemblies, sub‑assemblies and BOMs needed for the procurement, manufacture, and assembly of components.
- Provide engineering design/analysis services and works with vendors, consultants, mechanical and electrical engineering to meet assigned project development objectives, offering creative suggestions for solutions to problems.
- Work with Technical Documentation Department and Product Manager(s) to ensure that full engineering support is given to the development of proper assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance manuals and procedures.
- Provide technical support to all other departments during procurement, assembly, testing and final acceptance of equipment.
- Provide support to customer service field technicians and spare parts department after equipment has been shipped as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- At least 3-5 years of machinery design experience preferably in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Solid foundation and some experience with hands on application of design principles to develop and test electromechanical systems.
- Knowledge of electromechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and other drives and actuators, highly desirable.
- Knowledge of plastics process technology desirable, but not required.
- Proficient designing with CAD software
- 3D solid modeling, Creo preferred
- AutoCAD for 2D manufacturing drawings
- FEA analysis tools, Creo preferred
- Excellent technical communication skills, including Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email.
