OverviewOrion Engineering has an immediate opening for a Senior Marine Structural Engineer in Houston, TX. This position provides senior-level structural design engineering support for the construction of marine structures for Orion, its affiliates, and other clients. The incumbent will supervise engineers and project management team members and will assist in coordinating and facilitating the proposal process with potential clients.
Responsibilities- Work with the VP of Engineering and the Engineering and Structural Design team to achieve departmental goals.
- Lead the growth and development of the team by providing mentorship, technical guidance, and participation in hiring and evaluating staff.
- Interface with engineering, project teams, and clients to understand requested engineering services.
- Apply extensive knowledge of principles and practices in broad areas of assigned projects.
- Perform structural engineering analysis and design of marine structures (bulkheads, sheet-pile walls, retaining walls, concrete wharves, mooring/dolphins, etc.).
- Demonstrate ability to develop business and marketing strategies to achieve short- and long-range objectives.
- Establish and maintain ongoing client relationships to identify new opportunities and prospect new clients.
- Serve as primary liaison with new clients in bid proposals, pre-qualification submittals, and contract negotiations.
- Perform finite element modeling of marine structures (e.g., SAP or STAAD).
- Review project documents for conformity and quality assurance.
- Develop new techniques or improved processes for design projects.
- Provide technical advice on safe designs and construction.
- Review and approve scopes, budgets, and schedules; prepare bid package documents.
- Represent the company at industry conferences and evaluate upcoming project opportunities for feasibility.
- Maintain confidentiality of company information and adhere to safety responsibilities.
- Master’s and/or Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with Structural emphasis.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in a US state or ability to obtain PE via reciprocity within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in marine structural engineering design.
- Working knowledge of marine structural design, engineering standards, marine construction materials, procurement, estimating, scheduling, project tracking software, cost control, and safety/environmental compliance.
- Strong business acumen, technical proficiency, and ability to interface with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to learn quickly, communicate effectively, and maintain high integrity and confidentiality.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing priorities; strong attention to detail.
The incumbent must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and may be required to wear appropriate PPE for jobsite work.
