SummaryThe Staff Engineer reports to the Director of Pipeline Integrity. This position involves diverse involvement in various aspects of the company’s business related to pipeline integrity, defect evaluations, and operations. This position requires periodic travel to field locations, training, and company meetings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Support Integrity Engineers (IE) in all aspects of crack management. Areas of support include fracture mechanics models, material property evaluation, growth analysis, and fatigue analysis.
- Support the Company’s Integrity Management Plan (IMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in risk assessment, data integration, anomaly evaluation, remediation programs, integrity program evaluation, and identification of preventive and mitigative measures.
- Stay current in the advancements in pipeline fracture mechanics, ILI crack technologies, and in-the-ditch crack investigations.
- Support the IEs when interacting with appropriate subject matter experts and other stakeholders, such as third-party resources and vendors, to analyze pressure cycling, perform materials testing, and communicate requirements for in-field evaluation.
- Provides technical support to the Integrity Repair group, Specialists, Project Managers, and Operations with pipeline assessments, evaluation, and repair methods.
- Assists in the management of Company pipeline SOPs covering defect evaluations, pipe repairs, pressure reductions, outside force evaluation, and surveillance.
- Assists in inspections by PHMSA and other regulatory bodies by acting as an SME on pipeline inspections, data, records, and program execution.
- Assists in developing improvements to the company’s Integrity Management Plan, including the written plan, procedures, best practices, and processes.
- Collect and provide Pipeline Integrity related data for performance metrics, required annual reporting, and help monitor key performance indicators for assigned assets.
- Graduate engineer with BS in Engineering discipline.
- 10 years of related experience.
- Experience in pipeline operations, pipeline design, pipeline repair, and pipeline integrity issues such as corrosion control, pipeline assessment and fitness for service evaluation, risk management, DOT Code requirements, and compliance.
- The position requires a candidate oral and written communication skills.
- A highly developed ability with PCs and office computer software is required.
- Must be a self-starter and self-motivator ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision.
- Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum engineering degree preferred.
- Prior experience utilizing various fracture mechanic models.
- Prior experience with ILI crack technologies.
- The Senior Engineer level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 6 – 8 years of relevant job related experience.
- The Senior Engineer II level requires a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 8+ years of relevant job related experience.
- The Staff Engineer level requires Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 12+ years of relevant job related experience.
- The Principal Engineer level requires Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline and 20+ years of relevant job related experience with a strong preference for a PE license.
The work environment characteristics described here represent those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office working conditions with approximately 20% of the time in the field. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing. Overnight travel will be required. The position is based in industrial settings, including hazardous materials and chemicals, extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and requires appropriate personal protective equipment.
