Overview

Environmental Consultants are tasked with ensuring that IFO Group’s domestic and international clients are provided with expert consultancy services for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Assessments and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans. We are looking for a flexible, detail-oriented team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. This person will work from the office or remotely to perform assessments on behalf of our clients.

Prior verifiable experience with performing Phase I and II Environmental Assessments is a firm requirement. Candidates should be prepared to provide examples of prior reports that they have authored.

Responsibilities
  • Site inspections:
    Performing on-site visual inspections of a property, including identifying potential contamination sources, hazardous materials storage areas, and potential environmental concerns based on site observations.
  • Record review:
    Researching historical property records, aerial photographs, building permits, environmental compliance reports, and other relevant documents to identify past environmental activities on the site.
  • Interviews:
    Conducting interviews with current and past property owners, occupants, neighbors, and local officials to gather information about potential environmental issues.
  • Data analysis:
    Interpreting gathered information to identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs), which are potential environmental liabilities based on observed conditions and historical records.
  • Report writing:
    Preparing detailed ESA reports outlining findings, potential environmental concerns, and recommendations for further investigation (Phase
    2) if necessary.
  • Project management:
    Managing Phase II site investigations to include coordination of sample collection and submittals to the lab for analysis.
Skills
  • Environmental knowledge:
    Understanding of common environmental contaminants, federal and state environmental regulations, and potential environmental liabilities associated with different land uses.
  • Site assessment skills:
    Ability to conduct thorough site inspections, identify potential environmental concerns based on visual observations, and document findings accurately.
  • Research skills:
    Expertise in researching historical records, property deeds, environmental databases, and other relevant sources to identify past environmental activities.
  • Communication skills:
    Effective communication with clients, property owners, stakeholders, and other team members to gather information and explain complex environmental issues.
Education and Qualifications

Education and Qualifications
:
Environmental Science, Environmental Geology, or related Engineering Degree or equivalent strongly preferred; with current professional engineering or Health, Safety, and Environment certification(s), specifically one of more of the following: REM, PE, PG, CSP, ASP, CIH, CHMM, or equivalent. Candidates not meeting these educational and certification requirements, but with at least 10 years of otherwise strong, verifiable applicable experience may be considered on a case by case basis.

For the purpose of being retained as an Environmental Professional for this role in accordance with 40 CFR Part 312:

  • a person who possesses sufficient specific education, training, and experience necessary to exercise professional judgment to develop opinions and conclusions regarding conditions indicative of releases or threatened releases (see § 312.1(c)) on, at, in, or to a property, sufficient to meet the objectives and performance factors in § 312.20(e) and (f).
  • Such a person must:
    • Hold a current Professional Engineer's or Professional Geologist's license or registration from a state, tribe, or U.S. territory (or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico) and have the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time relevant experience; or
    • Be licensed or certified by the federal government, a state, tribe, or U.S. territory (or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico) to perform environmental inquiries as defined in § 312.21 and have the equivalent of three (3) years of full-time relevant experience; or
