Overview
Mechanical Engineer – Buildings role at Garver in Houston, Texas. Part of the Buildings Group, this position develops mechanical designs in support of various Buildings Design Business Line projects, including planning, design, and commissioning of building systems.
Primary focus areas include building HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, whole building energy modeling, and sustainability requirements reporting.
Responsibilities- Develop mechanical designs for Buildings Design projects across the project lifecycle (conceptual, design, and construction phases).
- Lead the planning, design, and commissioning of building HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, energy modeling, and sustainability reporting.
- Coordinate with other support disciplines and regional offices.
- Assist project managers in project management activities.
- Adhere to Quality Assurance and Quality Control plans.
- Periodic travel to project sites may be required.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering and sustainability principles.
- Mentor and train technical staff.
- Interface with clients on project design, delivery, and construction.
- Manage project budget and schedule compliance.
- Utilize BIM design software to produce construction drawings.
- Use Microsoft Excel-based tools for design calculations.
- Manage multiple assignments concurrently with strong time management and product quality focus.
- Follow QA/QC plans and pursue continuing education based on project needs and team requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or architectural engineering with a mechanical focus from an ABET-accredited program.
- Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
- 5–10 years of building design and construction industry experience.
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles related to building mechanical designs.
- Proven experience overseeing mechanical designs, including detailed plans and specifications for building projects.
- Technically competent in building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
- Strong communication skills.
- Experience with Autodesk Revit.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Experience with AIA Master Spec.
- Knowledge of Federal Agencies design criteria.
