Overview
If you are an experienced Environmental Investigator, consider this opportunity to grow with an environmental state agency. This position is part of the TCEQ Compliance and Enforcement team in the Houston Regional Office and involves ensuring regulated entities comply with the state’s environmental laws.
Responsibilities include conducting technical inspections, surveys, and follow-up investigations; preparing reports that document field activities and observed conditions; conducting environmental monitoring and preparing technical papers regarding studies involving environmental subjects; providing technical assistance to the public, regulated community, and other interested groups regarding the application of regulations; and assisting with collecting and analyzing environmental samples.

- REQUIRED EDUCATION/
EXPERIENCE:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field generally preferred, but not required; OR four years of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities directly related to the examples of work performed. - Note:
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure (e.g., communication infrastructure systems, cybersecurity systems, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment systems, or water treatment facilities). The ability to maintain the security or integrity of infrastructure is a requirement for employment with TCEQ. - Transcripts/College Hours or Coursework:
Official college transcript or evaluation of foreign credentials may be required if needed to meet qualifications. - Current TCEQ employees:
This position may be available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to existing employees; minimum qualifications apply to the Environmental Investigator II-IV series.
Standard business hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Scheduling is determined by the TCEQ Houston Region Office.
