Entry Level Civil Engineer (Renewables)
WSP is currently initiating a search for an entry‑level civil engineer to be involved in our Power & Energy projects within the Site Development Civil Team – Renewable Energy in Cincinnati, OH. The following locations will also be considered:
Cleveland, OH;

Your Impact- Support renewable energy site development projects, emphasizing solar, wind, and BESS facilities along with behind‑the‑meter generation for commercial and industrial clients.
- Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Perform professional civil engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Support development of sites and permitting plans for various projects within the energy sector including electrical transmission, solar, and onshore wind projects.
- Support development of civil, erosion and sediment control, drainage/stormwater, and utility designs.
- Support development of permit application documents, engineering design plans, specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
- Field visits to local sites and a small amount of overnight travel.
- Coordinate with clients and governmental agencies to fulfill project needs and acquire all necessary permits or approvals.
- Support development and scoping of medium‑sized projects.
- Provide guidance and training to entry‑level engineers.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
- Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- 1+ years of relevant post‑education experience in renewable energy engineering and prior civil design experience.
- Leadership and communication skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Task management skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required.
- Working knowledge of site grading, stormwater, and erosion and sedimentation controls required.
- Understanding of stormwater permitting (NPDES); multi‑state knowledge a plus.
- Working knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
- Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non‑engineering audience.
- Capable self‑leadership with attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Developed critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
- Ability to direct others in the field to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
