Job Description – Mechanical Project Engineer (ADV
000CG
V)
We need your talent to help us achieve great things inspiring people globally, working with human space exploration and supporting NASA’s deep‑space missions.
Responsibilities- Analyze customer requirements and develop mechanical design solutions.
- Design, develop, test, implement, and analyze technical products and systems, including thermal vacuum space simulation testing.
- Produce engineering drawings that conform to JPR‑8500 and other applicable standards.
- Trouble‑shoot facility systems and instruct technicians on repair solutions.
- Collaborate with NASA Pressure Systems to complete Pressure Systems Design Reviews.
- Prepare and present designs at engineering design reviews and create engineering specifications, statements of work, and estimates for facility projects.
- Prepare, submit, and track all phases of procurement, inspection, fabrication, and installation into test chambers.
- Coordinate and lead Mechanical Engineering designers, stress engineers, and drawing checkers to complete detailed fabrication drawings.
- Maintain configuration control for all project phases and oversee technicians during installation or fabrication.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Minimum 2–5 years of related mechanical design experience.
- Strong mechanical systems design experience and problem‑solving skills.
- Experience with ASME B31.3 Process piping and ASME boiler and pressure vessels.
- Knowledge of JPR‑8500 and NASA drawing system manual is a plus.
- Proficiency in CAD (AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, or similar).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and teamwork orientation.
- Experience working in a thermal vacuum testing environment and shift work flexibility.
- Familiarity with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
- Experience developing and maintaining project schedules and reporting status (MS Project or Smartsheet).
- Experience with NASA’s Engineering Drawing System Manual, JPR‑8500.4.
- Knowledge of reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM) principles.
- Familiarity with Liquid Nitrogen, Helium, and Oxygen systems.
