Overview

The Product Development Chemist will work independently to develop, analyze, and certify gas and liquid standards for petroleum petrochemical, natural gas and alternative energy applications. This role focuses on new product formulation, method development, and analytical validation to support high-accuracy reference material products used in petroleum, petrochemical, environmental, and regulatory applications. This is a senior technical position with no direct reports.

Responsibilities
  • Independently develop gas and liquid reference materials
  • Design and execute experiments related to gas or liquid blending, cylinder preparation, stability studies, and impurity analysis
  • Perform analytical testing using techniques such as GC, GC-MS, moisture analysis, and other specialized analytical instrumentation
  • Calculate blend compositions, uncertainty values, and certification data according to ISO/ASTM/quality requirements
  • Generate Certificates of Analysis (COAs), technical reports, and validation documentation
  • Evaluate new raw materials, components, and analytical methods to support innovation and improved accuracy
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality systems
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, and Customer Service to support new product introduction and troubleshooting
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to global standards organization methods in product development and release
  • Manage multiple development projects with minimal supervision while maintaining laboratory safety and compliance
Qualifications
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
  • 5-10+ years of experience in product development, technology innovation, or a related role within specialty gas/liquid or petroleum energy industry

Skills and Abilities
  • Proven track record of successfully leading product development projects from concept to commercialization
  • Strong understanding of technology trends and innovations in the oil and gas chemical sector
  • Ability to perform detailed calculations of gas and liquid mixtures, uncertainties, and analytical data
  • Experience in an ISO-accredited lab highly preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of gas chromatography (GC/FID/TCD), GC-MS, or related gas-phase analytical tools
  • Knowledge of regulatory and environmental standards in the oil and gas industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
