Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists
The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical execution of large‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, representing the Owner/IPP throughout the project lifecycle. This role oversees engineering activities from early design through commissioning and operational handover, ensuring technical excellence, grid compliance, and on‑time delivery across multiple utility‑scale assets.
The Project Engineer works across electrical, controls, mechanical, and systems engineering disciplines, solving complex technical challenges through critical thinking, innovation, and a systems‑level perspective. The role requires the confidence to present technical recommendations, influence cross‑functional stakeholders, and support executive decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities- Lead engineering execution from conceptual design through commissioning and operational readiness on utility‑scale BESS projects.
- Act as the technical interface between internal teams and external partners, including utilities, EPCs, OEMs, and EMS providers.
- Coordinate cross‑functional stakeholders (engineering, finance, operations, commercial) to resolve technical risks and drive alignment.
- Oversee EMS, SCADA, control architectures, and electrical/mechanical system integration.
- Review, evaluate, and approve system designs, performance models, interconnection documentation, and vendor submittals.
- Support and coordinate system commissioning and performance validation in collaboration with EPCs, OEMs, and EMS vendors.
- Contribute to the development of standardized engineering processes, tools, and templates to enable scalable project execution.
- Support technical contract reviews and negotiations related to EPC scopes and major equipment procurement, with a clear understanding of cost, risk, and project economics.
- Identify technical risks early, apply value engineering where appropriate, and capture lessons learned to continuously improve execution.
- Manage the technical handover from commissioning to operations, ensuring readiness and long‑term performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience, including at least 1–2 years focused on utility‑scale BESS projects ideally in Texas.
- Experience supporting engineering functions on renewable or energy infrastructure projects.
- Strong foundation in power systems, controls, EMS, and SCADA.
- Working knowledge of ERCOT interconnection processes, metering requirements, and grid compliance.
- Experience using engineering tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or equivalent platforms.
- Proven ability to review and validate detailed engineering and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with utility interconnection agreements and commissioning procedures.
- Experience with software‑based control logic and automation system integration.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts across disciplines.
- Comfortable operating in fast‑moving project environments with evolving scopes.
- Demonstrates integrity, safety awareness, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Collaborative team player who fosters inclusive, high‑performance engineering teams.
