POSITION SUMMARY

The Mechanical Integrity Engineer (MIE) provides technical guidance and serves as the company subject‑matter expert (SME) in Mechanical Integrity (MI) and related engineering disciplines, including RAGAGEP standards such as ASME, API, ANSI, AWS, and AMPP. The MIE supports the development, improvement, and interpretation of the corporate MI program and its initiatives, practices, policies, and procedures. They serve as SME in fixed and rotating equipment design, construction, inspection, maintenance, and repair practices, and provide support for internal and external MI‑related audits, risk surveys, and PHAs.

The MIE evaluates program performance, leads continuous improvement, and communicates findings, remediations, and opportunities to peers and leadership, embodying Targa MI’s philosophy of safety, compliance, and efficiency.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Guide operations, technical services, and process engineering regarding changes that affect mechanical integrity and reliability.
  • Participate in and support internal/external MI audits, risk surveys, and PHAs.
  • Provide SME support and guidance to operations, engineering, and MI team members on MI program matters.
  • Assist with root‑cause failure analysis studies to determine failure modes and advise on repair methods.
  • Assist with degradation mechanism identification and analysis, and develop risk‑based inspection (RBI) programs.
  • Maintain and communicate current code, regulatory requirements, and RAGAGEP pertaining to MI.
  • Champion development, improvement, and implementation of inspection programs to maximize on‑stream time of major equipment.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement of corporate MI policies, guidelines, procedures, and training.
  • Advocate for MI cultural development.
  • Review, develop, and enhance detailed design standards, specifications, and drawings for mechanical equipment.
  • Lead the development and execution of Mechanical Integrity and Reliability programs.
  • Complete company job‑related forms and paperwork accurately.
  • Liaison to operations, technical services, engineering, and EHS groups regarding changes affecting mechanical integrity and reliability.
  • Support engineering with design, drawings, and specifications for materials, fabrication, and NDE content.
  • Communicate with vendors and other parties to protect the company’s professional reputation.
  • Interpret and evaluate inspection results.
  • Develop best practices and tools for project execution on future projects.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of midstream gas gathering and processing operations (pig liquid handling, compression, glycol/de‑hydration, acid‑gas treating, hydrocarbon recovery, condensate stabilization).
  • Experience with Integrity Data Management Systems (IDMS).
  • Extensive knowledge and application of pipeline and plant and industry codes and standards (OSHA , ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3/8, API 510/570).
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team‑oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Adaptability to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously following direction, policies, or procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills to prioritize work and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Persuasive, encouraging, and motivating communication style with employees and contract workers.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Ability to elicit cooperation from diverse stakeholders, including upper management and clients.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills to provide courteous customer service at all levels.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment.
  • Capability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 15+ years of industry experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, chemical, or petroleum engineering.
  • API 510 and API 570 certifications.
  • Willingness to work overtime.
