As a Contract Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll join a dynamic team committed to strengthening the world's energy systems to make them more resilient, efficient, and reliable. Based at our global headquarters in Houston, TX, the Senior Mechanical Engineer leads design activities, independently executes engineering projects, and mentors junior team members.
Key Responsibilities- Leads the design and development of vacuum equipment, components, and products, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Applies advanced engineering principles and methodologies to solve complex technical challenges and optimize designs
- Prepares detailed engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and technical reports, to communicate design concepts and findings effectively
- Procures fabrication of custom parts that meet specifications and are delivered on time
- Identifies opportunities for process improvements, cost reductions, and performance enhancements; actively contributes to initiatives aimed at operational excellence
- Owns projects from concept to implementation, including planning, scheduling, and resource coordination
- Leads or contributes to cross-functional design reviews, integrating mechanical solutions into broader systems
- Tracks progress, manages risks, and ensures timely delivery of engineering work
- Provides technical mentorship and guidance to less experienced engineers
- Participates in peer reviews and helps shape team development practices
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in an engineering role
- Experience leading small projects or technical work streams
- Proficient in FEA, DFM/DFA, GD&T, and structured problem-solving
- Deep technical competence in mechanical system design and execution
- Experience with vacuum equipment
- Superconductivity experience is a plus
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and handle moderate project complexity
This position requires sitting at a desk and viewing a computer screen for extended periods while working or performing other office tasks. Ability to move around the office, including occasional standing, walking, and bending to retrieve documents, attend meetings, or use office equipment. Some light lifting may be required, up to 20 lbs.
