Position Summary
The role of the Mechanical Project Engineer is the primary technical point of contact between Methanex and the project contractors for coordination of mechanical engineering, design and procurement of the project assets. The Project Engineer coordinates the review, approval and implementation of engineering documents.
During project development, the Project Engineer performs engineering tasks such as analysis of drawings, system and functional requirements, hazard analysis and vendor performance specifications in the mechanical disciplines. This involves collaboration with multiple partners at all levels of the organization to determine data and requirements for technical solutions.
The Project Engineer provides Q/A support to peer project and discipline engineers on other assigned projects.

- Prepare and distribute reports as required, such as document review status reports and action item lists.
- Work with the Project Manager and team to support mechanical vendor performance management.
- Participate in the review, development and implementation of all relevant mechanical design basis documents, engineering drawings & specifications.
- Coordinate input from the Global Expert Team and maintain the MPS Deviation process for the Static and Rotating disciplines.
- Ensure full compliance with the management of change procedure.
- Ensure project procedures are followed during all project stages in compliance with MCMP or the Capital Project Standard as appropriate.
- Oversee documentation transfer between Methanex and contractors (checkout of existing drawings, receipt of final project drawings).
- Assist in the preparation for relevant engineering reviews.
- Participation and input in other special projects as assigned by Project Leadership.
- Engage with suppliers to specify, design and purchase mechanical equipment.
- Review mechanical designs performed by plant engineers and/or engineering partners to ensure compliance with applicable codes, MPS, and project requirements.
- Drive resolution of mechanical technical issues with input from global experts, conduct studies and prepare reports.
- Review specifications, drawings and vendor equipment documentation.
- Contribute to discipline Design Criteria for engineering or design activities.
- Ensure that Methanex is represented and perceived as a respected and trustworthy member of the communities within which projects are being considered and/or executed.
- Support and maintain relationships with site neighbours, key local authorities and personnel.
- Lead by example as a collaborator, relationship builder, and partner.
- Develop an understanding of corporate policies and procedures that impact the Project business and ensure Project compliance.
- Maintain awareness of the Methanex Code of Business Conduct and Corporate Governance Manual.
- Degree in mechanical engineering discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in a Capital Project environment, including familiarity with the Manufacturing Capital Management Process (MCMP) and other gated project work processes.
- Associated experience with plant operations, commissioning or start‑up management, particularly with methanol process front‑end systems (reforming, refractory, waste‑heat boilers, etc.).
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a technical environment.
- Experience in mechanical engineering around reformers, refractory, fired heaters and other methanol front‑end systems (preferred).
- Working knowledge of the MPS, especially Piping and Static Equipment.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and/or issues simultaneously.
- Positive partnership with individuals at all levels.
- Strong self‑motivation to evaluate and solve technical and engineering problems, both in isolation and in groups.
- Flexibility to relocate to a project site or EPC office on assignment.
