We have an exciting opportunity for a Space Environment Engineer to join the team with Barrios Technologies, a teammate company.

As NASA’s largest engineering solutions provider working together with NASA at centers across the United States, we have an exciting opportunity for a Space Environment Engineer to join the team with Barrios Technologies, a teammate company.
This is a potential opening; we are actively searching for qualified candidates, but there is no assurance at this time when the position will be finalized and opened. We are proceeding with identifying qualified candidates and conducting interviews.
ResponsibilitiesThe Space Environment Engineer will:
- Provide support as a space environments engineer for multiple NASA programs including Gateway and Axiom Station
- Provide systems engineering support with space environments requirements and verification activities, working in concert with NASA civil servants and designated contractors
- Evaluate induced environmental hazards between space station elements and visiting vehicles. Conduct systems engineering trade studies in the form of modeling/analysis activities to identify potential contamination risks and mitigations strategies
- Develop and update semi-empirical and theoretical models
- Analyze/model molecular contamination and transport of contaminants from contamination sources (such as materials out gassing, vacuum venting, and chemical thruster plumes) onto external surfaces
- Analyze/model plasma effects and spacecraft charging
- Analyze/model radiation transport and effects to materials
- Assess compatibility of spacecraft hardware with natural and induced space environment
- Perform other duties as required

Required Education/Experience/
Skills:
- Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area
- 3 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., M.S. or Ph.D.)
- Experience with CAD and 3D modeling software (Creo, Solid Works, etc.)
- Experience with meshing and/or finite element analysis software (Femap, NX Advanced…
