Construction Field Engineer I – HNTB

What We’re Looking ForSeeking a candidate who can provide engineering inspection and documentation of construction work performed by contractors. Responsibilities include monitoring project construction compliance with plans, specifications, contract provisions, and state and local regulations.
Responsibilities- Assist with construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents; coordinate and schedule quality control inspections.
- Observe on-site material testing, coordinate testing and monitoring services; perform mathematical calculations for material quantity payments and basic shop drawing review.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies or conflicts, and review contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy and consistency.
- Document project progress using video and photo, prepare reports, and consult with Resident Engineers on construction problems while recommending solutions and acting as a liaison with the engineer of record.
- Maintain knowledge of industry technology and tools (e.g., GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
- Perform office engineer work as needed, including preparing meeting agendas and minutes, processing and maintaining tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates, and other deliverables.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- Engineer's in Training (EIT) preferred.
- Previous experience on TxDOT projects and/or using Site Manager.
- Bi‑lingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents and use inspection checklists to evaluate quality of work.
- Skills to write daily inspection reports, track work performed, and compute pay-item quantities at a basic level under guidance.
- Basic shop drawing review and understanding of contractors’ CPM schedules.
