R&D Laser Design and Modeling Engineer

A leading semiconductor company is seeking a highly motivated Laser Design and Modeling Engineer to join their dynamic R&D team. This role focuses on designing, modeling, and simulating InP and GaAs-based high-speed and high-power semiconductor lasers to support next-generation optoelectronic product development.

• Develop high-speed and high-power laser models and simulations using in-house tools, commercial software, and custom scripts.
• Perform optical waveguide, DC, RF, and thermal simulations.
• Collaborate closely with process and fabrication engineers on process flow and photomask design.
• Partner with internal Growth, Processing, Packaging, Characterization, and Reliability teams to verify and validate designs.
• Analyze test data to refine device designs and modeling accuracy.
• Contribute to innovative laser design concepts and optimization projects.
• Prepare detailed reports and present progress updates to the engineering team.

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a related discipline (or Master’s with 5+ years of relevant laser design experience).
• At least 2 years of hands-on experience in semiconductor laser design preferred.
• Strong understanding of semiconductor laser, photodetector, and optoelectronic device theory.
• Skilled in Matlab or similar programming tools.
• Experience with one or more of the following is a plus: high-speed lasers, EML, VCSEL, or high-power lasers.
• Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes beneficial.
