Sr. Project Manager, Traffic

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Project Manager, Traffic to work in Frisco, Houston, Austin, or Dallas, TX. This leadership role will drive and grow our traffic engineering services, ensuring all designs meet technical, regulatory, and project standards while supporting safe and effective traffic management infrastructure.

Overview

The ideal candidate will have 15+ years of experience and a strong background in traffic impact analysis, traffic operational analysis, traffic signal design, transportation planning for site development, roadway lighting, traffic signal timing, data analytics, and related traffic engineering services.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with leadership to develop and enact a comprehensive strategic plan focusing on short‑ and long‑term growth.
  • Lead service‑specific proposal efforts, providing technical expertise and driving innovation in project approaches.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, leveraging insights to enhance service offerings and project delivery methods.
  • Lead and assist in preparing detailed construction drawings for traffic control devices (traffic signals, illumination, ITS, signs, pavement markings) using AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Bentley Open Roads; review and markup plans as needed.
  • Prepare and conduct traffic engineering studies, including technical analyses and evaluations for projects of various sizes and complexities.
  • Produce clear and concise technical reports, memoranda, and other written communication with all supporting analyses.
  • Assist in preparing or reviewing PS&E related to traffic engineering.
  • Produce high‑quality work and implement and maintain QA/QC procedures.
  • Oversee and complete technical aspects of various traffic engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines, support services, sub‑consultants, government agencies, utility providers, and clients.
  • Identify and interpret applicable codes, standards, and design requirements.
  • Review plans, technical specifications, and contract documents.
  • Utilize specialized traffic engineering software (Synchro, Vistro, Vissim, Trip Generation web app, etc.) for analyses.
  • Research and analyze traffic safety data, including crash records.
  • Perform field observations related to traffic operations and safety for site development and design of traffic control devices.
  • Participate effectively in public hearings, neighborhood meetings, and client meetings; represent clients and the firm with governmental agencies.
  • Prepare, maintain, and coordinate schedules of multiple concurrent projects, ensuring on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
  • Develop scopes, budgets, and proposals for traffic engineering projects; review and approve monthly billings.
  • Serve as an administrative supervisor to one or more production staff.
Required Skills
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively represent the organization to leaders, team members, clients, public officials, and the public.
  • Strong sense of urgency, self‑initiative, and a detail‑oriented, collaborative, problem‑solving mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proficient in Autodesk Civil 3D, Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Proficient in national design standards (MUTCD, AASHTO, etc.) and the design of traffic signals and related devices.
  • Competent in roadway lighting design, traffic signal operations, timing, and modeling.
  • Proficient in applying ADA/PROWAG criteria in public infrastructure design.
  • Willingness to delegate assignments, develop constructive relationships with peers, clients, and public agencies, and integrate group and company standard practices.
Required Experience
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in design, project management, and client management with a focus on traffic engineering services.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas.
