This Opportunity
WSP is searching for a Full‑Time Consultant – Fire and Life Safety Engineering for our Houston, TX office. This dynamic and experienced FPE will play a crucial role within our group.
Responsibilities
- Technical Excellence
- Develop the design of state‑of‑the‑art fire protection and life safety systems.
- Provide expert technical guidance and solutions to ensure compliance with industry standards, building codes, and regulations.
- Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies and technological advancements.
- Maintain knowledge of building and fire codes, fire alarm and sprinkler design, and the industry standard of care.
- Building Code Consulting
- Provide building‑code consulting, guiding clients and project teams to ensure compliance.
- Stay current with evolving building codes and contribute to company‑wide strategies.
- Experience with a wide range of complex projects and occupancy types.
- Project Excellence
- Collaborate with project managers and cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality fire protection and life safety solutions.
- Review and approve project designs, calculations, and documentation.
- Maintain a deep understanding of best practices, codes, regulations, and emerging trends.
- Ensure practice meets and exceeds the standard of care for all projects.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- 3–5 years of experience in the fire protection and life safety industry.
- Deep understanding of building and fire codes, standards, and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility to various schedules and ability to prioritize under pressure.
- Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Revit and/or AutoCAD.
- Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.

Compensation
Expected salary: $85,200 – $117,000 (all locations). Compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, geographic location, and internal equity.
