This Opportunity

WSP is searching for a Full‑Time Consultant – Fire and Life Safety Engineering for our Houston, TX office. This dynamic and experienced FPE will play a crucial role within our group.

Responsibilities

• Technical Excellence
  • Develop the design of state‑of‑the‑art fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and solutions to ensure compliance with industry standards, building codes, and regulations.
  • Drive continuous improvement in design methodologies and technological advancements.
  • Maintain knowledge of building and fire codes, fire alarm and sprinkler design, and the industry standard of care.
• Building Code Consulting
  • Provide building‑code consulting, guiding clients and project teams to ensure compliance.
  • Stay current with evolving building codes and contribute to company‑wide strategies.
  • Experience with a wide range of complex projects and occupancy types.
• Project Excellence
  • Collaborate with project managers and cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality fire protection and life safety solutions.
  • Review and approve project designs, calculations, and documentation.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of best practices, codes, regulations, and emerging trends.
  • Ensure practice meets and exceeds the standard of care for all projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• 3–5 years of experience in the fire protection and life safety industry.
• Deep understanding of building and fire codes, standards, and regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexibility to various schedules and ability to prioritize under pressure.
• Occasional travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Revit and/or AutoCAD.
• Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.

Compensation

Expected salary: $85,200 – $117,000 (all locations). Compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, geographic location, and internal equity.
