Ports & Maritime Civil Engineer at Jacobs

Base pay range: $86,000.00/yr - $/yr

As a Ports & Maritime Civil Engineer in Houston, TX, you will be part of a global team of more than 550 maritime experts, involved in design, analysis, and delivery of projects ranging from local waterfront projects to large‑scale port developments.

You will support our teams on critical projects while fostering a culture of continuous learning and inclusion, bringing fresh ideas to the table.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare civil calculations, designs, contract drawings and specifications.
  • Conduct field inspections and create engineering reports.
  • Prepare construction field reports and coordinate project delivery.
  • Work with clients and subconsultants and provide technical presentations as necessary.
  • Manage multiple tasks and small projects independently.
  • Travel occasionally for site visits and inspections.
  • Qualifications
    • A minimum of 5–10 years of progressive experience as a Civil Engineer with the design of backland facilities for marine terminals.
    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field from an ABET‑accredited university or college.
    • TX Professional Engineer License (or the ability to obtain one within one year) is required.
    • Working knowledge of design and coordination of grading, water distribution, sanitary systems, stormwater conveyance, jointed reinforced concrete and rail design as it relates to the backlands of marine terminals.
    • Experience in preparation of construction drawings and specifications.
    • Experience in site civil development for container, bulk material handling and liquid bulk terminals.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Micro Station and Civil 3D.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and small projects independently.
    • Ability to travel occasionally for site visits and inspections.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Master of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
    • Experience in designing backland facilities for marine terminals.
    • Experience working with port authorities and private terminal companies.
    • Ability to produce civil details in AutoCAD / Micro Station and coordinate with senior CAD operators to prepare construction drawings.
    • Experience with project quantities and cost estimation.
    • Ability to produce technical memorandums and reports.
