PositionSummary
As a Level I Composite Repair Technician, you will support blade repair operations by performing foundational composite tasks, basic blade inspections, surface preparations, and general site duties. This entry‑level position is ideal for mechanically inclined individuals eager to launch and grow their career in the wind energy industry while working in a safety‑first environment.
Blade Inspection & Repair- Assist in conducting thorough internal and external blade inspections, including the blade’s leading edge (LE), trailing edge (TE), spar cap, root section, tip, and shear web areas
- Perform basic composite repair tasks such as sanding, grinding, applying filler, cleaning up edges (LE/TE), and other minor repairs to blade surfaces
- Support cavity preparation, bonding prep, lay‑up/lamination assistance, and finishing operations during blade repair projects
- Help carry out small crack repairs and surface damage remediation under the guidance of senior technicians
- Adhere to OEM work instructions (WIs), Critical To Quality guidelines (CTQs), and Fair Wind’s standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Properly mix epoxy resins and fillers as directed, under supervision
- Assist in gathering measurements, taking photos, and completing repair documentation and reports for each task
- Follow all Fair Wind safety protocols (including 100% tie‑off fall protection, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and required PPE) at all times
- Actively participate in daily safety briefings, job safety analyses (JSAs), and hazard assessments to maintain a safe work environment
- Keep a clean, organized work area and uphold all quality standards, ensuring repairs are done right the first time
- Work closely with senior technicians, following their guidance and best practices on each job
- Assist with staging materials, handling equipment, hoisting gear, and overall site setup and teardown
- Communicate professionally and contribute to a positive, team‑oriented atmosphere on site
- Support blade access operations, including handling tag lines and assisting with suspended platform work as needed
- Some hands‑on experience in composites, construction, or mechanical fields (entry‑level acceptable)
- Comfortable working at heights up to 300 ft, and willing and able to travel full‑time (100% travel)
- Physically capable of climbing wind turbines, kneeling, carrying up to 50 lbs, and working in various weather conditions
- Must pass a pre‑employment skills evaluation (blade repair techniques) prior to hire
- GWO (Global Wind Organization) training certifications
- Basic knowledge of composite repair methods (from coursework or prior experience)
- Familiarity with rope access work or confined space entry practices
