Provide the expertise and knowledge that support the college curriculum and programs. Establish courses following accepted higher education standards, teach students using a variety of effective methodologies and provide engagement and support activities that encourage student learning. The role of the Instructional Faculty encompasses teaching and learning, academic advising, professional development and institutional and community service.
The incumbent will teach a maximum load of (See Faculty Workload Guidelines) contact hours each semester in area(s) of competency and participate as a part-time instructor in the activities of the department, division and college.
Responsibilities- Teaching: Demonstrate skill and/or knowledge in the teaching discipline; continually improve instruction using innovative methodologies and delivery methods; develop and use syllabi for each course or laboratory; plan, develop, and use varied teaching methods and materials to meet course objectives for diverse learners; evaluate and communicate student progress in a timely manner; maintain accurate student records and submit reports as requested;
review and recommend textbooks and learning materials; teach courses at various times and locations as needed; use equipment and facilities responsibly and assist with routine maintenance of instructional laboratories; demonstrate competence and openness to using technology in the classroom. - Academic Advising: Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; provide access to students through posted office hours and electronic communication; advise on instructional or program-specific issues; make presentations on academic fields or programs and opportunities (transfer, work experiences, scholarships, etc.); create and maintain a website with relevant information; work with the Chair on advising activities as needed per college guidelines.
- Professional Development: Establish annual objectives for professional growth; stay current with developments in the discipline; apply technologies that support student learning; participate in self, department, and college evaluations.
- Institutional and Community Service: Participate in scheduled institutional activities and meetings; adhere to college policies; engage in activities that support the mission of the college and accreditation standards; contribute to curriculum review and alignment with professional standards and external requirements; assist in articulation of courses and programs with other institutions.
- Education: Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in World Language or Master’s degree in the language required.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of college-level teaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in a diverse environment; willingness to teach day or evening classes at multiple sites; computer proficiency; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong organizational and planning abilities; sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds and disabilities; capability to inspire and motivate students; self-discipline and ability to manage others.
