Second Baptist School is currently seeking a MIDDLE SCHOOL DEAN OF STUDENTS for the school year.
- Position Title: Middle School Dean of Students
- Reports To: Head of Middle School
- Work Calendar: Eleven Months
The Middle School Dean of Students supports the spiritual, social and behavioral development of students within a Christ-centered culture in middle school. This role works closely with the Head of Middle School, faculty and families to support student conduct, accountability and growth. The Dean of Students maintains a visible presence throughout the school day, oversees student discipline and behavioral systems and leads initiatives that promote character, leadership and community among middle school students.
RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES.
Essential functions of the job include but are not limited to the following:
Middle School Student Culture and Conduct
- Maintain a strong and visible presence throughout the middle school day including hallways, lunch, arrival, and dismissal.
- Oversee student discipline processes and ensure consistent application of school policies.
- Support students in developing responsibility, character and leadership consistent with the school's mission.
- Partner with faculty to address behavioral concerns and classroom management challenges.
- Coordinate restorative conversations and conflict resolution between students when appropriate.
- Communicate and enforce minor disciplinary consequences and hold detention.
- Communicate with parents regarding student conduct concerns.
- Maintain student discipline records and documentation.
- Lead initiatives that promote a healthy and positive middle school culture.
- Student Accountability and Support
- Oversee student conduct expectations and disciplinary systems.
- Coordinate student accountability measures such as detention or behavior plans.
- Monitor attendance and tardiness trends and partner with families when concerns arise.
- Work collaboratively with counselors and administration to support student well-being.
- Assist in planning and supervision of middle school student events such as dances, field days and special activities.
- Support student leadership opportunities and character development initiatives.
- Plan and supervise lunchroom systems and flow to maximize student experience, while maintaining systems and order.
- Provide administrative supervision at school events, athletics and extracurricular activities.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for parents regarding student conduct and behavioral concerns.
- Serve as a contributing and active member of the middle school administrative team
- Effectively communicate the school's strengths and characteristics to prospective families, and assist in the admission process by interviewing and evaluating applicants.
- Collaborate with division leadership on middle school procedures, communication and campus operations.
- Possess a continued desire to learn, participating in professional development opportunities throughout the year, networking with like-minded peers outside of Second Baptist School, and focusing on accomplishing goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, candidates must have:
- A strong Christian testimony and a calling to serve as a positive Christian role model to our students.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; a master's degree in education or other relevant field.
- Three to five years of independent/private school administrative experience.
- Previous classroom teaching experience.
- Experience in student leadership, discipline or school culture initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students and families.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills along with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Ability to use technology with confidence, including working knowledge of Google Workspace (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.).
- The heart to provide exceptional customer service to all members of the community.
- The desire to be a dedicated and loyal team member supporting all school activities and school-wide initiatives.
- A commitment to responsible stewardship of school resources and support for the school's mission in daily work.
