Summary
The Librarian is responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting the school library program within the Duchesne community. The Librarian manages equipment and facilities, instructs students in library research skills, and serves as experts in books, electronic resources, and audiovisual materials.
Primary Responsibilities- Assume responsibility for the selection, processing, organization, and maintenance of all materials and equipment.
- Catalog and classify materials in the library database.
- Conduct training for teachers in the use of computer technology in the classroom and curriculum integration.
- Supervise the receiving, stamping, labeling, and filing of library materials.
- Maintain circulation records of teachers and students and keep circulation statistics.
- Oversee the checking in and checking out of all materials.
- Prepare overdue notices for students on a regular basis.
- Formulate and administer library budget.
- Maintain accurate records of expenditures and income.
- Collaborate with the Lead Librarian.
- Notify faculty and students of new materials in the library.
- Evaluate the library program and collection and implement change based on findings.
- Inventory the library collection on an ongoing schedule.
- Supervise the withdrawal of obsolete or damaged materials and adjust inventory records within the database.
- Plan and direct the activities of library volunteers.
- Produce and duplicate media adhering to copyright laws.
- Participate in faculty, curriculum, and technology meetings.
- Collaborate with students to analyze learning information needs, to locate and use resources that will meet those needs, and to understand and communicate the information the resources provides.
- Plan and implement the library program of service to students and faculty in grades PreK-1.
- Support teacher instructional plans through collaboration at monthly meetings with the learning technologist, and classroom teachers.
- Integrate effectively library services across the curriculum.
- Promote literacy and the enjoyment of reading.
- Create a library media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and the interests of the students.
- Conduct training for teachers in the use of computer technology in the classroom and curriculum integration.
- Plan for and operate computer systems for research, circulation of media and collection management.
- Master sophisticated electronic resources and maintain a focus on the nature, quality, and ethical use of information available in these tools.
- Collaborate with the technology department in planning, selecting, and supporting campus technology.
- Attend professional workshops, conferences, and seminars to gain knowledge of new developments and incorporate into the library program.
- Promote the Library Bill of Rights and Intellectual Freedom.
- Adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations including copyright laws.
- Serve on committees whose activities directly affect the instructional and technological needs and goals of the school.
Minimum Education /Prior Experience/Qualifications Required

- A master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA), or from a master’s level program in library and information studies accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country.
- High level of competence using technology.
- Experience in a PreK – 12 environments, preferably in independent schools is a plus.
- Strong references to convey your abilities.
- Excellent communication skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to make independent decisions along with maintaining the confidentiality of privileged and sensitive information.
- Genuine affinity for working with children and families in an educational setting.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
