Position: Special Education Teacher Assistant (SLC Classroom)

The Teacher Assistant works as a partner with the school team in developing and delivering educational experiences for Baker Ripley Community School students to provide an enriched learning environment. Lessons and student management support the school in carrying out goals, policies, and activities designed to implement educational objectives and performance standards.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in supporting access to learning and supporting activities outlined in the IEP for student(s), plus provide instructional support services under the direct supervision of a highly qualified teacher/leader (Title I, Section 1119 (g) (2).

Provide instructional services to students under the guidance of the classroom teacher.

Participate in the screening, observation, and documentation of student progress through assessment tools identified by the campus or district.

Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional materials.

Provide instructional assistance in a computer laboratory.

Provide one-on-one tutoring if scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.

Contribute to the collection and editing processes of the National School Lunch Program and attendance.

Conduct parental involvement activities.

Provide instructional support in a library or media center.

Make home visits with the teacher as required or requested.

Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Associate’s degree or higher, or completion of at least two years (48 semester hours or equivalent trimester hours) at an institution of higher education. Experience teaching students with special needs in a general education classroom can substitute for educational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Some college coursework
Associates degree
