The University of Houston Law Center (UHLC) invites applications for a promotion-eligible, non-tenure track Clinical Assistant Professor position in Lawyering Skills & Strategies (LSS) for the academic year. The contract is nine months, beginning when classes start in August 2026 and continuing through Spring Semester 2027. As a standard workload, this position teaches two sections of UHLC’s first-year legal writing course, Lawyering Skills & Strategies, each semester.
An example of a Fall semester instance is not included here.
The non-tenure track appointment will have a one-year probationary contract period with no presumption of renewal. Based on continued positive evaluations, the position may lead to additional annual contract periods followed by a presumptively renewable multi-year contract. The initial salary range for this position is expected to be approximately $80,000 for a nine-month academic year for the Assistant level. The position is eligible to receive an annual allotment for travel and professional development and eligible to participate in a summer research program which funds faculty scholarships.
An attorney appointed to the position must hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. As an NTT position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.
Please reference and review the University of Houston’s NTT Faculty Policy, available at the UH Provost website. Also applicable are the UHLC bylaws provisions relating to the NTT position of Clinical Professor. Further information about the Law Center and its programs is available at the UHLC website.
The search is administratively coordinated by the chair of the Law Center’s Faculty Appointments Committee, Alumnae College Professor of Law and Assistant Dean Meredith J. Duncan. After submitting your application in the system of this posting, please send Assistant Dean Duncan a courtesy email, attaching a resume or curriculum vitae to that email.
