Position Summary:

Join The Wild School as an Outdoor Preschool Assistant. If you are passionate about outdoor education and love working with children, we would love to have you on our team.

Position

Schedule:

The time of the day is 8:30 AM-12:30 PM, but the days of the week are dependent upon the location.

Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the lead preschool teacher in organizing and facilitating outdoor, nature-based learning activities.
  • Assisting in the supervision of children during outdoor exploration, ensuring their safety and engagement.
  • Helping prepare and set up materials for daily activities, as well as tidying up after class.
  • Engaging children in hands‑on activities that foster curiosity, creativity, and a connection with nature.
  • Encouraging positive behavior and social interaction, guiding children in conflict resolution when necessary.
  • Supporting the learning environment by modeling curiosity and respect for nature.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (must be obtained before employment begins)
  • Background check required for employment
Preferred

Skills:
  • Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and ecosystems
  • Basic outdoor skills, including navigation and safety
  • Ability to engage and inspire children through storytelling, games, and hands‑on activities
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and adaptability in an outdoor environment
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for nature‑based learning
Preferred Skills/Training:
  • Experience with nature connection mentoring programs (e.g., Art of Mentoring, Coyote Mentoring)
  • Previous experience leading nature classes or outdoor camps
  • Familiarity with play-based and experiential learning methods
Compensation:
  • $14-$16 per hour, depending on experience
  • Paid training and professional development
  • Training manual provided at the time of hiring
  • 30% off classes and preschool for your children
  • Possibility to extend employment into the summer for summer camps in 2025
