Description
Role Mission: IDEA Flex Co-Teachers are full-time, additional para-professional staff hired by IDEA Public Schools with the intent of eventually filling a permanent co-teaching (para-professional) role on a campus when an aligned vacancy arises. This allows IDEA to place a qualified co-teacher in the classroom immediately after a vacancy is determined and minimizes the number of days students miss instructional time.
Once hired by IDEA, Flex Co-Teachers are assigned to a home campus to fulfill various educator responsibilities as outlined below. When a permanent co-teaching vacancy arises, either at the home campus or other campuses in the region, Flex Co-teachers participate in a matching interview with a campus leadership team for a permanent placement. Vacancies may arise before or after the start of the school year.
All IDEA co-teachers learn instructional strategies and develop teaching skills to provide highly effective instruction under the guidance of an IDEA teacher. This position is grant-funded with Title I Part A funds and may be extended. A grant-funded position has no guarantee of ongoing employment. All duties and responsibilities are tied to the grant and the employee will work 100% on allowable activities outlined in the grant program.
Compensation
- Compensation for this role is set at an hourly rate ranging between $16.90 for 0 years of experience and $24.60
- Hourly co-teachers earnings are paid out over a 12-month period

QualificationsWhat You Bring -- Competencies
Education
:
At least 48 college hours required or bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year educational institution.
Experience
: 1+ year(s) of experience working with children in a classroom or volunteer setting.
Knowledge And Skills
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
What You’ll Do -- Accountabilities
Responsibilities of Flex Teachers:
- Report to the home campus daily.
- Report to temporary co-teaching assignments determined by the regional staffing team that are not at the home campus.
- Participate in matching interviews when there is a permanent co-teaching position available at one of your top site locations.
- Shadow a great teacher or co-teacher on the home campus.
- Work with a small group of students on the home campus.
- Substitute for daily absences.
- Cover extended absences/FMLA.
- Other instructional duties as assigned by the home campus or regional staffing team.
Responsibilities Of All IDEA Co-Teachers
- Assist in the educational development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher
- Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records
- Successfully implement the assigned curriculum
- Participate in lesson practice and delivery of our assigned curriculum
