Primary Music Teacher (
Full Time
)  – Working with multiple grade levels spanning PK-5 grade.

Position Overview

The Primary Music Teacher helps students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing instruments and music theory. The music teacher is responsible for preparing lessons and leading music class instruction and may also lead choir and Orff instrument ensemble classes and activities.

Required Qualifications
  • BA or equivalent in Music Education, Elementary Education (or related field)
  • At least five years full-time teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master degree in Music Education, Elementary Education (or related field)
  • International and/or independent school experience
  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or French language
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated digital proficiency in current tools and platforms (electronic grade books, Learning Management Systems, online learning platforms, digital portfolios, AI assisted technology, etc.)
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends as needed

THE ROLE

A teacher at The Awty International School is expected to meet the following expectations:

  • Plan and instruct music classes daily that ensure progression of skill development which challenges students individually and as a group
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards
  • Develop and utilize assessment methods for measuring growth and achievement
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student growth and development
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners
  • Assess student learning, use data to adapt learning plans, and provide timely feedback
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively and consistently
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement best practices
  • Organize and maintain music equipment
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation
  • Incorporate cultural elements into lessons and activities
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and concerns
  • Build strong relationships with parents and involve them in their child's education
  • Organize parent-teacher conferences and other opportunities for parent involvement
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in music education
  • Attend and positively contribute to grade, faculty, division and all-school meetings as necessary
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, and other non-instructional times
  • Assist with school-wide initiatives and events
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular school hours; some evening and weekend hours may be required when school is in session
  • Participate in the wider life of the school and be responsible for other duties as assigned such as special projects and presentations, school trips and service learning activities as well as attending curriculum nights, conferences, open houses,…
