Summary:
JOB SUMMARY: Texas Southern University will begin instruction towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Science Management, Unmanned Aerial Systems the Spring of 2026. We are seeking a Drone Instructor with extensive FAA Part 107 experience. In addition, the ideal candidate must have the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students, employees, and our local community, one in which every individual feels respected and valued.
The Drone Instructor must demonstrate cultural humility and the ability to work with a university community with diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including those with disabilities and veterans.
- Meets regularly with the Executive Director of Aviation Science Management
- Plans and facilitates learning sessions
- Assists students in the development the skills and knowledge required to pass the Part 107 exam
- Maintains consistent communication with Partners
- Models appropriate academic and social behaviors
- Performs other duties as assigned
% FTE: 1.0
Hiring Range: $51,056.07-$67,649.00
EducationRequired: Must possess a bachelor’s degree
Preferred: Master’s Degree Preferred.
Licensing / CertificationNone Required.
Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of:
- Policies, procedures, and practices.
- Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications.
- Strong computer skills, including Inventory and Purchasing as well as Aircraft Maintenance Records and Manuals.
- Knowledge and ability to demonstrate skill in drone piloting and instruction.
Skill in:
- Multitasking and time management.

- Both verbal and written communication.
- Possess good interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to:
- Contribute to teaching, and service at a level necessary to help the department maintain accreditation.
- Should demonstrate commitment to mentoring students.
- Must be able to work with a diverse student and faculty population.
- Ability to work with students of diverse ethnic backgrounds, academic profiles, ages, and skill levels.
- Must demonstrate responsibility, a desire to help others, discretion, and flexibility.
- Ability to instruct students on how to control a drone.
- Ability to collect and analyze data to drive future instruction.
- Ability to work independently applying critical thinking skills and problem solving to various situations.
- Must be able to instruct students of varying skill and experience levels in multiple programs based on interest and ability.
- Experience preparing students for the Part 107 exam.
- Prolonged standing and/or walking.
- Handling light weight objects.
- Using or carrying equipment.
