Position: Summer Camp Teacher, Education Department
Employment Status: Part-Time, Hourly, $22 per hour, Seasonal:
June 1 - August 7, 2026*
Job Summary: HMNS has earned the reputation as one of Houston’s top summer enrichment experiences. A robust catalog covering a wide range of science topics is geared toward children ages six to twelve. Summer Camp 2026 is offered at both the main campus in Hermann Park and Sugar Land locations. Successful applicants will teach in the museum’s Summer Camp program and/or the Summer Scout program engaging children through hands-on learning activities, working with student volunteers and paid teaching assistants to organize classroom materials and projects, and maintaining a safe and fun environment for our campers. Teacher applicants should have an interest in science, natural history and related fields. Additionally, they should communicate well with children, teenagers and adults, demonstrate initiative, and have a positive attitude.

This position reports to the Director of Summer Camps in the Education Department.

-3:30 p.m., Tuesday-Friday 9 a.m.

Monday-Friday 7:45 a.m.

- Manage classroom according to curriculum and training.
- Interact and work with campers of various ages in an encouraging manner.
- Interact with camp parents in a professional and accommodating demeanor.
- Communicate with children, teenagers and adults.
- Organize classroom materials and projects.
- Manage teaching assistants and ensure they are engaged in productive work.
- Ensure proper sign in and sign out of campers.
- Supervise and ensure the safety of campers at all times.
- Maintain a safe and fun learning environment.
- Present hands-on lessons and activities in a fun and exciting manner.
- Review and be prepared to deliver provided curriculum.
- Answer patron and parent/guardian questions or refer them to the appropriate staff member.
- Follow all safety guidelines for activities.
- Arrive to work on time.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Comply with the museum's health and safety protocols.
- Interest in teaching and education, as well as science, natural history and related fields.
- Maintain a positive attitude.
- Demonstrate initiative.
- At least 18 years old by your start date.
- Bachelor's degree.
- Certified classroom teacher or relevant professional work experience.
- Classroom teaching experience.
- Complete training prior to start date.
- Able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Move about for extended periods of time.
- Remain stationary for extended periods of time.
- Free access to museum exhibits, Butterfly Center, Burke Baker Planetarium, Giant Screen Theater and satellite facilities.
