Position Overview: The Secondary Spanish Teacher is responsible for creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth in secondary students. Key responsibilities include planning and implementing engaging lessons aligned with curriculum standards, assessing student progress, differentiating instruction to meet individual needs, and building strong relationships with students and families. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator with a strong understanding of the International Baccalaureate and effective teaching strategies.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • BA or equivalent in Spanish, Language Acquisition, Education, or related field
  • At least five years full-time teaching experience
  • Native-speaker proficiency in target instructional language (Spanish)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in education (or related field)
  • International and/or independent school experience
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Program or MYP experience
  • Certification in education and/or related subject area
  • At least three years teaching experience in a Secondary setting
  • Bilingual (or highly proficient) in English or Spanish
  • Demonstrated digital proficiency in current tools and platforms (electronic grade books, Learning Management Systems, online learning platforms, digital portfolios, AI assisted technology, etc.)
APPLICANTS SHOULD
  • Possess excellent teaching skills and pedagogy
  • Demonstrate sound knowledge of the application of interactive methodologies, technology integration and online learning software and/or platforms
  • Be well versed in current research and best practices in teaching and learning
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding within the classroom and curriculum
  • Effectively teach classes, as allocated, to a mixed-ability classes, drawn from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, including students for whom English may not be their first language
  • Contribute to the development of the curriculum (the production and ongoing review of units and/or long-term plans - including Interdisciplinary units)

  • Encourage students to develop empathy and respect for all stakeholders
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and concerns

  • Organize parent-teacher conferences and other opportunities for parent involvement
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in education
  • Attend and positively contribute to grade, faculty, division and all-school meetings as necessary
  • Supervise students during lunch, recess, morning arrival and afternoon dismissal, and other non-instructional times
