Job Description
Music Teacher – Assistant Band Director
Qualifications and Skills- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Valid Texas Teacher Certificate or an out‑of‑state teaching certificate appropriate for the position.
- Certification must meet all federal and state requirements for qualification and retention.
- Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Follow District curriculum and guidelines related to classroom instruction and co‑curricular activities.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning through thoughtful, continuous planning and efficient organization.
- Plan public performance experiences that support classroom objectives and meet District standards for excellence.
- Provide after‑school instruction to prepare students for competitions; accompany them to activity sites and other approved music activities.
- Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines and district policies.
- Collaborate with faculty and administration to support school and district objectives through classroom and co‑curricular activities.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods; assess achievement through testing.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.
- Be a positive role model and support the mission of the school district.
- Create an appropriate classroom environment; manage student behavior in line with the student code of conduct.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities; assist in selecting instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents, students, principals, teachers, and community members.
- Use effective communication to present information clearly.
- Inform the Director of Performing Arts and Building Principal of all matters related to the program.
- Pursue in‑service and professional growth opportunities; participate in staff development and committees.
- Maintain budget accounts, music files, and accurate records of equipment and uniform purchases.
- Attend District staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Performing Arts or Building Principal.

Working Conditions – Mental Demands- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Work with frequent interruptions.
- Regular in‑person interaction with the public.
- Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
- Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
