St. Theresa Catholic School seeks responsible, energetic and nurturing individuals who love children and have experience with teaching physical education. To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement;
to develop strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil’s ability. Demonstrate extensive knowledge and practical application of behavioral principles and instructional practices, methods and strategies, including classroom management based on positive reinforcement; and maintain personal qualities of leadership, integrity, fairness, optimism, self-confidence, persistence and vitality.

- Minimum of a four-year B.A./B.S. Degree with at least 12 hours within content area.

- State Teacher Certification in appropriate grade level
- Three years teaching experience; early learning experience preferred

- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
- Works cooperatively with other physical education coach/teacher in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and to provide time for changing clothes (if necessary), instruction, exercise, and sports activities.
- Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student, to the extent feasible.
- Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of students.
- Maintains surveillance over storage and use of such items as equipment and supplies to prevent loss and abuse, working through site level administrator where appropriate.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluates each student’s growth in physical fitness, and in physical skills and knowledge. Assesses each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group in team sports.
- Inputs grading for each student into the grading software for each term, as instructed.
- Fosters a safe and nurturing learning environment

- Organizes gym/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
- Demonstrates support and knowledge of school’s goals and mission
- Provides record keeping of students learning and performance.
- Works with the Principal and other coaches to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standards
