Job DescriptionProvides information to and advises both enrolled and prospective students regarding the academic programs offered by the University or a specific department, including requirements for admission and retention through graduation; may coordinate the work of entry level academic advisors.
Department is willing to accept education in lieu of experience.
This position is responsible for advising current and prospective graduate students from admissions and retention through graduation. Duties involve, but are not limited to:
- Processes graduate admissions applications.
- Advises and refers prospective students and current students in areas concerning admissions, professional development, funding, student services, policies, degree plans, course planning and selections, and career and educational goals.
- Interprets and communicates academic policies and procedures to faculty, students and staff.
- Analyzes, monitors and processes student paperwork such as degree plans, general petitions, graduation applications, non-resident tuition waivers, and substitutions.
- Maintains admissions and current student files/records throughout their academic careers and makes changes as necessary.
- Coordinates or assists with preparing and conducting student meetings such as orientations, seminars and workshops.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred candidates will have experience or familiarity with People Soft Campus Solutions or other ERP system such as Ellucian Banner; ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others; demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and customer service skills; keen attention to detail; proficiency in the Microsoft 365 software.
Required QualificationsRequires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job‑related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job‑related experience.
