PrimaryPurpose:
To monitor students’ attendance thereby reducing/preventing drop-out occurrences and increasing attendance and graduation rates.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or GED
- Qualifies for state paraprofessional certification
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with the students and parents
- Knowledge of state compulsory attendance laws
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate personal computer to develop databases and word-processing
- Bilingual English/Spanish - preferred
Experience:
- Two (2) years work experience in attendance preferred
- Two (2) years work experience with teenagers or young adults in an advisory/guidance role
Major
Responsibilities and Duties:
Program Management
- Work with the Administration and staff to reduce the number of drop-outs and track cohort groups.
- Investigate unexcused and excessive absences and tardiness.
- Interpret and communicate compulsory attendance laws and school policy to parents and students.
- Investigate and attempt to recover suspected drop-
- Work to increase attendance rates.
- Assist parents, students and personnel in answering questions regarding student attendance.
- Help document, monitor, and/or implement attendance interventions.
- Monitor student attendance for truancy and alert administrators of students in need of intervention.
- Run attendance reports to identify truant students.
- Attend attendance trainings offered by the district.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
