Position: Biology Teacher - Willow ridge High School 2025-2026

Job Overview

The Biology Teacher will plan and implement an instructional program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels. The incumbent will manage student behavior, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify instructional activities as required, as well as carry out a variety of student monitoring and control activities. Any teacher who coaches a UIL sport will also provide athletic services related to that sport and the athletic program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assess student abilities related to desired educational goals, objectives and outcomes. Continually assess student achievement and maintain appropriate assessment documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes.
  • Plan appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities including determination of materials and their appropriate level and kind.
  • Implement an instructional program that provides appropriate learning experiences, considering different learning styles and a range of learning curves.
  • Manage the behavior of learners in instructional settings to ensure a conducive learning environment, and assist in managing student behavior in other parts of the school, center, or work site.
  • Coordinate instructional-related and testing activities with other professional staff, both school and non-school-based, as required, maximizing learning opportunities.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Work in a self-contained, team, departmental, itinerant capacity or at a field work site as assigned; request assistance of and work with resource personnel.
  • Participate in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
  • Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student progress.
  • Continuously communicate with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress in meeting those expectations.
  • Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement.
  • Assign work to and supervise instructional assistants, parent and student volunteers as needed.
  • Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is attractive, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible in good condition.
  • As itinerant, serve at two or more schools on a regular basis. Make off‑school site visits to monitor students, confer with employers, or site instructors.
  • Support or participate in school‑wide student activities, social events and approved fundraising activities.
  • Monitor student behavior in non‑instructional areas, intervening to control and modify disruptive behavior, and report to the appropriate administrator as needed.
  • Collaborate with other professionals (guidance counselors, librarians) to carry out school‑wide instructional or related activities.
Coaching Duties (if applicable)
  • Perform coaching duties as assigned and any duties required for the efficient operation of an athletic program.
  • Possess knowledge and adhere to UIL rules and regulations.
  • Assist the Athletic Department with budget, schedules, and facility use.
  • Communicate with the Athletic Department on a regular basis.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid Teaching Certification issued by the Texas Education Agency appropriate to subject and grade level of assignment, or have received a statement of eligibility.
  • Valid Texas ESL Certification for Elementary and Secondary English/ELA teaching assignments, or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid Bilingual Certification for bilingual teaching assignments.
  • Valid driver’s license with CDL certification preferred if coaching a UIL sport.
  • Coaching experience preferred if coaching a UIL sport.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FBISD program of studies related to assignments and public school mission, goals, and organization.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials and equipment of instructional specialties to which assigned.
