Location: Congregation Emanu El, Houston, Texas
Hours: 18 hours/month, August–May
Compensation: $500/month
Reports to: Associate Rabbi

Position Overview:

Congregation Emanu El is seeking an engaging and organized Junior Youth Group Advisor and TA Coordinator to help foster a meaningful and inclusive Jewish community for our tweens and teens. This role focuses on running a monthly program for 6th and 7th graders, supporting our Teaching Assistant (TA) program, and building relationships with our tweens and teens. The ideal candidate is passionate about inspiring teen leadership and creating opportunities for young people to take an active role in their Jewish community.

Key

Responsibilities:
  • Support the Religious School Teaching Assistant (TA) program in partnership with the Assistant Director for Teens and Young Adults.

    Responsibilities include:
    • Helping to supervise TAs during Religious School on Sundays (8:30–11:30 AM)
    • Assisting with TA development meetings (11:30 AM–12:30 PM, approximately once per month)
    • Completing administrative tasks such as preparing contracts, tracking hours, and meeting with individual TAs as needed
  • Plan and lead one engaging 6th & 7th grade youth group program per month outside of Religious School hours
  • Collaborate with the Religious School team on programs for middle school students within the Religious School hours
  • Build meaningful relationships with tweens and teens, fostering a positive and welcoming environment
Qualifications:
  • Experience in Reform Jewish youth settings (educational or informal), such as religious school, summer camp, or youth groups
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to manage tasks independently
  • Passion for Jewish learning, community building, and working with tweens and teens
Schedule & Compensation:
  • 10-month position (August–May)
  • 18 hours/month: includes Religious School on Sunday mornings, weekend youth group programs, and remote administrative work during the week
  • Pay: $500/month
