Part-Time AVID Tutor

Part-Time AVID Tutor @ Alief ISD/Various Locations

Primary

Purpose:

AVID Tutors will work with small groups to facilitate the AVID tutorial process in the AVID Elective classroom to ensure students are using inquiry to problem solve and think critically.

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma/GED Equivalent - $13 per hour
• Non-Certified/Degreed - $20 per hour
• Certified Teachers - $25 per hour

• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Positive and professional attitude

Experience:

• None

• Take an active role in developing the academic and personal strength of AVID students.
• Assist students in becoming college ready.
• Provide academic support for students in rigorous courses.
• Serve as a role model to AVID students.
• Arrive on time and prepared to facilitate tutorials under the supervision of the AVID teacher.
• Actively participate in collaborative groups and tutorials.
• Adhere to Alief ISD policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with AVID teachers and AVID District Directors.
• Track student progress.
• Complete AVID tutor training before placement.

• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
• Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
• Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

The principal will work with the Director of Advanced Academics if an AVID Tutor’s performance does not meet expected standards.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used : Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting: Frequent moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds);
May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
