Tutors and instruct students and community members who need learning assistance in assigned discipline(s) and study skills. Tutors provide a supportive, conducive learning environment and work on student academic support, institutional service, and professional development.
Essential Job Functions- Delivers tutoring services to students at scheduled individual or group sessions and maintains a weekly schedule of available hours for appointments.
- Assists students with developing study skills necessary for post-secondary education.
- Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions.
- Monitors and reviews student work, modifying and personalizing tutoring strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
- Facilitates the learning process by encouraging students to take responsibility for their progress.
- Interacts with LSC staff/faculty to obtain necessary course syllabi or materials and develops tutoring materials in support of the course.
- Delivers appropriate feedback to staff/faculty regarding student progress.
- Continues professional education through research and review of relevant material related to the assigned subject matter.
- Assists with additional duties as needed, such as covering the Courtesy Counter, answering phones, organizing materials, checking out resources, and performing other assigned duties.
- Completes and submits required documents accurately and timely.
- Participates actively in departmental meetings as required.
- Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned.
- Proficiency in the assigned discipline’s subject matter.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Commitment to quality service for students.
- Ability and commitment to work collaboratively.
- Ability to work independently with little direct or continuous supervision.
The work is sedentary. Employees may walk, stand, bend, carry light items, or drive an automobile. No special physical demands are required.
Work Schedule and Conditions- Equipment includes PC workstation (Windows environment), calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
- Interfaces with internal and external contacts as needed.
- Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
- Transcripts and/or a proficiency test may be required.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Hourly Pay Rate: $20.77
