Summary

The Program Director of the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. Program provides visionary leadership and strategic oversight for a new doctoral program committed to excellence in clinical training, research, and education. This role is ideal for a licensed clinical psychologist with a strong background in graduate education, curriculum innovation, and accreditation processes. As the inaugural Program Director, this individual will lead the program through the APA accreditation process toward successful national accreditation.

The Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program’s organizational home will be in the School of Health Professions and will execute its mission in intimate collaboration with the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine.

Job Duties Strategic Leadership and Program Administration
  • Lead the development and execution of the program's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with institutional leadership, faculty, and external stakeholders to enhance program visibility and impact.
  • Oversee program operations including budgeting, resource allocation, and policy development.
  • Chair program committees and represent the program on institutional and national platforms.
  • Foster and support consideration and inclusion of multiple points of view and backgrounds toward successes in recruitment, retention, and program culture.
Curriculum Development and Instructional Oversight
  • Design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based curricula aligned with American Psychological Association (APA) accreditation standards.
  • Lead curriculum innovation to reflect emerging trends in clinical psychology, healthcare, and evidence-based teaching effectiveness.
  • Supervise course directors and ensure instructional excellence across didactic and clinical components.
  • Coordinate with faculty to integrate research, ethics, and cultural competence into training.
Accreditation and Compliance
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with the APA Commission on Accreditation (CoA) standards.
  • Lead self-study preparation, site visit coordination, and submission of accreditation materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, program outcomes, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness through data-driven assessment and stakeholder feedback.
Faculty and Student Engagement
  • Recruit, mentor, and support faculty in professional development and scholarly activities.
  • Advise students on academic progress, internship readiness, licensure pathways, and career development.
  • Address students concerns and promote a supportive learning environment.
  • Serve as a primary liaison for admissions, curriculum, and student promotion committees.
Research and Scholarship
  • Maintain an active research agenda relevant to clinical psychology and graduate education.
  • Mentor doctoral students in dissertation development and scholarly dissemination.
  • Seek extramural funding to support program initiatives and research collaborations.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Psy.

    D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program (Ph.D. preferred)
  • Licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology in the State of Texas.
  • Demonstrated experience in graduate-level teaching, curriculum development, and program leadership.
  • Familiarity with accreditation standards and processes (APA CoA preferred).
  • Commitment to respect different perspectives and for care of patients from all backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a program director or in a similar leadership role.
  • Record of scholarly contributions to clinical psychology or health professions education.
  • Experience with interprofessional education and collaborative care models.
