Join the Komen Graduate Training Program at MD Anderson Cancer Center to provide inpatient nocturnal endocrine care for endocrine neoplasia patients.
OverviewMD Anderson’s Endocrine Neoplasia and Hormonal Disorders Department offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for patients with endocrine system tumors, both malignant and benign. The position focuses on inpatient clinical practice for endocrine and diabetes management with night‑shift work.
Responsibilities- Work 6 pm–6 am rotating weekends and holidays; initial training starts on day shifts and then transitions to night shifts.
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, develop and implement treatment plans, and evaluate patient outcomes.
- Assist department faculty physicians in covering the inpatient endocrine and diabetes service, managing endocrinopathies and endocrine effects of chemotherapy, assessing glucose needs, managing insulin and insulin pumps, and post‑discharge insulin titration.
- Perform inpatient consultations and follow‑up visits as assigned by the attending physician.
- Provide direct medical skills within scope of practice, including medication ordering, glucose monitoring, insulin titration and lab review.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists) and participate in clinical research protocols.
- Contribute to patient, family, trainee, and nursing staff education.
- Degree required from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) for clinical licensure.
- Minimum 2 years professional clinical experience, or completion of a one‑year advanced practice fellowship/residency program.
- Preferred 3–5 years experience, ideally in oncology, critical care, internal medicine, hospital medicine, or pediatrics.
- Required physician assistant authorization from the Texas State Board of PA Examiners; APRN authorization if applicable.
- Required BLS and CPR; preferred ACLS and PALS as applicable to the patient care area.
- Strong autonomous judgment, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work independently during night shifts.
