E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) & the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Surgery are currently seeking exceptional candidates for Physician Assistant in the Neurology Department at the MEDVAMC. The MEDVAMC is the most complex level 1A facility within the VA system offering state of the art surgical technologies. MEDVAMC serves as the acute tertiary care referral center for veterans in surrounding areas and states.

• VA offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package
• Enter clinical orders in the medical records of patients admitted to the Operative Care Line for care
• Assume responsibility for all orders—progress notes—consultation requests—discharge summaries—reports of histories and physical examinations
• Assist in surgical procedures as first or second assistant when needed
• Perform procedures in the clinic
• Manage acute and chronic health problems
• Order, interpret, and perform interventions based on diagnostic studies including radiology and laboratory studies
• Prescribe pharmacologic agents (per VHA Directive , MCP 118
  
  CPO-002, VHA Directive 10-95-020 – General Guidelines for Establishing Medication Prescribing Authority for Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Pharmacy Specialists, and Physician Assistants) except for controlled substances
• Provide consultation, admit and discharge patients
• Conduct patient rounds or provide Medical Officer of the Day responsibilities
