We are looking for a physician who can provide medical expertise and oversight of care across the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, with the highest level of professional standards to optimize quality of care.
Responsibilities- Attend and actively participate in hospital multidisciplinary rounds on all patients for whom the hospitalist service is the primary service, and when appropriate or requested in co-management or consultative roles.
- Cover Code Blue and Rapid Responses per campus code committee recommendations.
- Provide admission services for the Emergency Department, incoming transfers, and direct or emergent admissions according to the hospital on-call schedule and patient assignment guidelines.
- Provide co-management services for subspecialty services within the scope of privileges for the hospitalist provider.
- Provide consultative services for Medical Staff when within the scope and designation of privileges for the hospitalist provider.
- Accept transfers of care from other clinical service lines when appropriate, with physician-to-physician hand-off communication and acceptance by the hospitalist attending.
- Provide transfer center call for incoming non-critical care medical patients per on-call schedule.
- Evaluate admitted patients promptly in accordance with Medical Executive Committee bylaws.
- Abide by and conform to hospital tenants, guidelines, and bylaws.
- Provide physician-to-physician sign-out for patients transitioning to post-acute facilities and internal sign-out at transitions of care.
- Provide 72 hours of narcotic prescriptions for patients transitioning to skilled nursing facilities when clinically appropriate.
- Participate in nursing and staff education as solicited by leadership.
- Respond to clinical queries promptly and document History and Physicals within 12 hours and Discharge Summaries within 48 hours of discharge order.
- Maintain current understanding of regulatory environment related to status patients in line with national guidelines.
- Provide post-discharge coverage for appropriate home health orders for up to 2 weeks or until patients see their primary care physicians.
- Encourage in-network utilization of resources for continuity of care unless specified otherwise by patient preference or system constraints.
- Respond in a timely manner to pages and calls from nursing staff when patient safety or experience is not impacted.
- Provide additional coverage in emergencies or disasters per campus protocol.
- Participate in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge and skills; maintain ACLS certification.
- Direct patient care across the health care system via consult orders and provide consultation in collaboration with attending or primary care providers.
- Communicate with attending physicians, nurses, families, and other treatment team members to obtain appropriate patient care plans; support safe, compassionate, and personalized patient care across the system.
- Adhere to best practices, care directives, performance improvement initiatives, and MH privacy policies.
- Collaborate with Memorial Hermann Physicians, Risk Managers, and Case Managers to resolve clinical or administrative issues; promote professional growth and serve as a preceptor or mentor when appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Medicine
- Licenses/Certifications: Current state medical license;
Current Federal Drug Enforcement Agency license;
Board certified or board eligible; ACLS certification;
Staff privileges at all hospitals covered - Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills; teamwork to facilitate multidisciplinary care; strong problem-solving abilities; articulate and active listener; timely handling of issues within Memorial Hermann
