SummaryThis position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student‑loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit an EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review.
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
- United States Citizenship – Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree – Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school for the year of completion.
- Licensure – Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth or D.C.
- Residency Training – Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification. Other accredited residencies are acceptable if validated by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
- Practice Status – Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) may be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis while meeting licensing and supervisory criteria.
- Language – Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience – Board Certified or Board Eligible in Diagnostic Radiology;
Completion of an ACGME accredited diagnostic radiology residency;
Fellowship training in Body Imaging, Abdominal Imaging, Musculoskeletal, or Thoracic imaging. - Physical Requirements – Light lifting and carrying under 15 pounds; standing up to 2 hours; walking up to 1 hour; ability to lift up to 15 pounds; good vision (13–16 inches at 13–16 ft for 1–4 Jaeger), depth perception, color vision, hearing (with aid permitted).
- Environmental Requirements – Ability to work closely with others, work alone, and handle protracted or irregular hours; occasional exposure to odors and possible mask use.
- Review exam requests for appropriateness and prescribe or modify imaging protocols (CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X‑ray, Fluoroscopy, etc.).
- Provide technical image quality oversight and feedback to technologists.
- Oversee medication administration related to imaging (contrast, anesthesia, etc.).
- Participate in quality assurance activities: peer review, protocol review, appropriateness criteria, and performance improvement.
- Interpret imaging exams, generate reports with findings, measurements, differential diagnoses, recommendations, and impressions.
- Support patient care by delivering timely reports and consulting with providers.
- Obtain informed consent, issue disclosures, and enter orders in CPRS.
- Coordinate patient care with clinical providers, ensuring effective follow‑up.
- Notify providers of time‑sensitive or major findings promptly.
- Participate in tumor boards and on‑call duties as required.
- Assist Radiology Leadership with staffing, scheduling, policies, and strategic initiatives.
- Train and support technical staff and contribute to operational issue resolution.
- Maintain efficient, high‑quality, cost‑effective service delivery within budget.
- Recruitment Incentive (Sign‑on Bonus) – May be approved for highly qualified candidates.
- Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – Eligibility for student loan repayment as described above.
