Job Summary:

This role provides high quality care for individuals housed in the Harris County Jail. Responsibilities include intake health assessments, management of urgent care issues, treatment of chronic illnesses, and collaboration with advance practice practitioners. The role involves coordination with Harris County Sheriff s Office deputies, nursing staff, and on-site services such as radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, and laboratory services.
It may require communication with the Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals if higher levels of care are needed. Ensure organizational compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Perform intake health assessments and manage urgent care issues for patients in the Harris County Jail.
- Identify and treat chronic health conditions; collaborate with advanced practice practitioners.
- Coordinate care with on-site services (radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, laboratory) and with Harris County Sheriff s Office deputies.
- Communicate with the Harris Health Transfer Center or other local hospitals when higher levels of care are required.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Degrees:
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) — Board Certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine; must become board certified before board eligibility runs out; must meet credentialing criteria as set by the Medical Executive Committee. - Licensure:
Texas Medical Board license to practice medicine; registered as a physician in the State of Texas. - DEA License:
Must remain active throughout employment. - Work Experience:
Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3- or 4-year residency in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine. - Communication
Skills:
Above average verbal communication (heavy public contact); exceptional verbal (public speaking); writing/notes and reporting. - Proficiencies:
Computer literacy; suturing; splinting; EKG interpretation. - Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
