Job Summary
The Project Manager - Landscape Architecture Team is responsible for managing and delivering landscape architecture projects from concept through construction. This role requires strong project management, design oversight, and client coordination skills to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in alignment with EHRA quality standards. The Project Manager collaborates closely with internal multidisciplinary teams, clients, consultants, and public agencies while mentoring junior staff and supporting business development initiatives.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage landscape architecture projects across a variety of project types including master planned communities, public parks and trails, commercial developments, streetscapes, transportation projects, urban renewal efforts, and low-impact developments.
- Confer with clients, engineers, planners, and consultants to establish project goals, scope, schedules, budgets, and expectations.
- Prepare and manage project proposals including scope of work, timelines, budgets, staffing plans, and fee structures.
- Lead and supervise project teams to deliver high-quality design solutions on schedule and within budget.
- Mentor junior staff, meet regularly with direct reports, and support professional growth and development.
- Exhibit strong communication skills through written, verbal, and graphic presentation of ideas.
- Prepare and oversee graphic representations of proposed designs using computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) software, 3D modeling tools, and hand graphics.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of construction detailing, materials, and methodologies to ensure buildable and practical designs.
- Guide selection of appropriate landscape materials including plantings, paving, furnishings, signage, and site features.
- Attend Water District meetings (MUD, LID, UD, etc.) and provide project status updates to boards, clients, consultants, and project teams.
- Review construction documents and conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with design intent, codes, and contract documents.
- Collaborate closely with Planning, Engineering, Surveying, Contracts, and Construction teams to ensure coordinated project delivery.
- Review and approve billing drafts and project financials; coordinate with the Billing Analyst on invoicing, unbilled time, client inquiries, and collection support as needed.
- Assist with recruiting efforts and participate in interviews of potential candidates.
- Attend professional conferences and industry events to stay current on trends, expand professional networks, and support business development initiatives.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and graphic communication abilities.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong understanding of landscape architecture design principles, construction detailing, and materials.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design and visualization software.
- This position operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
- Periodic site visits are required and may involve exposure to outdoor environments, varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and walking extended distances.
- Attendance at meetings outside the office with clients, contractors, or consultants involved in project planning, design, or construction is expected.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience managing landscape architecture projects of varying scope, size, and complexity.
- Registered Landscape Architect in the State of Texas preferred or actively pursuing licensure.
- Additional certifications (LEED, SITES, Envision, etc.) are a plus.
- Software proficiency including AutoCAD, Sketch Up, Lumion, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam.
