POSITION SUMMARY

Provides direction for the program and staff and implements summer camp curriculum and activities. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on youth development, including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.

Overview

Provides direction for the program and staff and implements summer camp curriculum and activities. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on youth development, including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.

Essential Functions
  • Program Quality:
    Plan and implement lesson/activity plans and curriculum that include both formal and informal play within the center and outdoors in adherence to Y program model, curriculum and quality standards.
  • Leadership:
    Supervise the children, staff, program area and all activities. Make sound decisions in alignment with YMCA and state standards. Act as a role model to the children and staff by exemplifying the YMCA’s five core values.
  • Community Engagement:
    Maintain communication with families through parent conferences, parent orientations, newsletters and engagement events. Engage parents as volunteers.
  • Daily Operations:
    Maintain the program site and equipment, assist with the setup and breakdown of camp activities and cleaning of the program area. Adhere to YMCA of Greater Houston program standards and childcare licensing minimum standards.
  • Relationship Building:
    Maintain positive relations with children, parents, directors and other staff. Intentionally collaborate with center program staff. Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff trainings.
  • Child Abuse Presentation:
    Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements. Ensure youth are properly signed in and signed out, ensure only authorized adults are allowed in the facility, etc. Adhere to policies related to boundaries with each child. Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked; routinely monitor high-risk locations (bathrooms), etc.
